Looking at Week 3 with Colin

(It seems that he really likes to sleep, just like Eric)
Not much really to say except that we are seeing some muscle strength in his legs and neck. He is more curious when his eyes are open, taking it all in and trying to determine what he is staring at. We are seeing more smiles while he sleeps so we are hoping to have the real thing come soon! We have noticed that he really prefers sleeping on his side and tummy, not that we let him sleep in his bed on his tummy. When he is fussy we take turns holding him on our chests and he falls asleep instantly. Poor thing dislikes sleeping on his back only. Only a matter of time until he can position himself once he gets stronger. Things have been progressing and it seems the breastfeeding is going well. There isn't as much pain as there once was, so I am thankful for that. Last week I had baked a loaf of beer bread and it shattered the dish, then Rufus ate all of the loaf because we left him unattended.

Colin has had several visitors: Theresa and Scott, Annie and Nolan, Heather and TJ, Mike-Nicole-Matt-and Millie, Robyn and Linda, and after our movie yesterday he met Jen. (as seen here) We attended a movie in the afternoon and an awards ceremony in the evening. It was a long day for both of us. It was our first time bf in public, I hope it gets easier because it sure is awkward. I spend most of my time feeding, changing, rocking, and calming Colin. I am still feeling some remnants of the c-section pain wise so I think I need to take it easy. Some days I feel ambitious and attempt to tackle a lot of chores, then there are other days where I just want to relax whenever Colin is napping. It is so hard to not feel guilty about taking time to relax and rest. Another favorite hobby I have right now is hugging and kissing this adorable little guy. My heart melts every time I look at his angelic face. Enough gushing, I will post photos of Colin on Picasa here, and now for some cute pics of the star of the show...Colin James Meyer!
Take care, Amanda

My Husband the artist

Eric decided to create my push present/gift. The beautiful necklace was made by the talented husband and wife team of Kris and Laura Kohrs, owners of Natural Reflections Glass. Eric sent the design and they executed the plan. Thank you so much to the creative effort put forth by all parties to create such a meaningful gift. Here was the idea, Eric thought up a design of 3 pendants, the one on the left representing fireworks for him, the one on the right representing a flower for me, and the third pendant in the middle representing our baby which is a combination of the two. It was so very special when he presented the necklace to me, I of course cried a little. What a sweet gesture that means so much to me. Thank you Eric for such a great present.
By the way, the Dr visit told us everything is normal. He is measuring at average in every category. Our baby boy is normal and average. Hopefully this trend will continue. :) Eric went back to work for half a day, and says it was a mistake because there was too much work waiting for him to come back to. We shall see how the rest of the week progresses. Oh, and thanks to those who gifted us Target gift cards, I went and there were many things on sale that would be adorable on Colin when he gets bigger. Sorry if the update isn't enough information, if you have any questions please post in the comment section! Love ya, Amanda

Happenings

Things we have experienced:
Grandma & Grandpa Chase spent some time with Colin his first couple of days,

Rufus met Colin, and he is still adjusting to the new little person in the house.

Grandma & Grandpa Meyer and Aunt Anna came for a visit and babysat for us so we could go out and see our Kickball Teammates!

The Magills came for a visit and said "hi" before viewing their new house being built in Southern Maryland.

Eric and I took a trip to the mall with the stroller and got some exercise.

While relaxing this evening we experienced Colin rolling over, we reset him and he did it 2 more times so we included the video for some excitement!
The Picasa Web Album (click here) has also been updated, so venture over and take a look.
We are working hard to figure out what this little guy needs, sacrificing some sleep but getting some cuddle time in as well. We have our 2 week appointment tomorrow so hopefully he is healthy and gaining the weight he needs! Lot's of love to you all, Amanda

One Week Old!

Colin is officially one week old. We made the trek out of the house yesterday, big day for the 3 of us. We went to lunch at California Tortilla with our friend Derrick, and by time lunch was over Colin needed another feeding so we went home. We had a doctor appointment to check on his slight jaundice. The nurse at the hospital said he would be fine, the Nurse Practitioner we saw yesterday said he was a bit yellow still and wanted some lab work just to be sure. We have been instructed to begin his tanning regimen of 10 mins a day in the sun. He is on his way to get a better tan than Eric! Other than the jaundice, he has gained enough weight to surpass his birth weight. He was born at 8lbs 4.3 oz and is now 8lbs and 4.5oz . It appears we are doing something right if he is gaining weight! Yeah for a hungry hippo! Colin loves to feed, and he is pretty regular with about every 2.5 hours. Speaking of he is beginning to stir now. Things at the Meyer household are going good. Rufus is a bit dejected that we can't devote the same amount of energy to his play time or walks. He looks at me as though to say "Why can't you take me out, why do I have to wait for Eric?" Hopefully he can forgive me. Eric is an amazing husband, he has been working hard at making sure I take care of myself in order to provide for Colin. Eric loves snuggle time with Colin just as much as I enjoy it. As for my healing, things are going as they are supposed to. I am going to the OB to get the staples removed. I still have issues with coughing and laughing, which is very painful when you live with a jokester like Eric. Spirits are up at the moment and it feels as though we are beginning to develop our "normal". Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we delve deeper into this job of parenting. And now for some pictures of the cute one of our family:

Another Update

About 30 minutes after I posted the last update, Eric sent me a text saying they broke Amanda's water and she was then 2 cm dilated. Hooray!!!

I hope they are both resting up and that the epidural is helping things move along a little faster.

Update

Hi everyone. Just wanted to check in for those who are looking for some news. I was lucky enough to talk for a short time with Amanda just now. Here is what we know:

Her contractions were coming very regularly every two to three minutes. It was very intense, but she isn't dilated much more than a centimeter or two. She opted for the epidural, which she received around 3 EST. The contractions are still coming, but she is luckily not feeling them anymore.

She's planning to take a nap now, along with Eric, to rest up. It is desperately needed from the sound of her voice.

She's decided this baby will be born before midnight. So, you know what to do now!

I'll keep everyone posted as soon as I know anything more.

The pains starts

Symbolism for Amanda being a frozen pool just starting to thaw. Sleepless night, contractions causing tears now and they just started the petocin.

Eric sent me this message around 8:30 eastern time.

Keep those prayers coming that Baby Meyer will figure out that outside of mommy's belly is much better place to be.

I just thought I would let you know that she is at the hospital and things have started. Eric sent this lovely picture around 4:30 Eastern time.

Keep checking back. I'll post as much as I can in the time that I have. Bye for now!!!
